History

Anti-Hack began in the same way many inspired ventures begin – whilst bored on a train. Musing over why so many puzzles were based on spelling words, base ten numerals or basic shapes but there lots of unexplored rulesets such as base two numerals and their bitwise operators led to sketching binary puzzles on loose pieces of paper. What was mere ink on paper transformed into solvable grids and the once uninspired group became bitwise operators excitingly navigating an expanding landscape of logic puzzles.

The concept was a revelation. The potential for a captivating game, built around these simple yet challenging puzzles, was undeniable. With a surge of enthusiasm, the journey to bring Anti-Hack to life commenced.

The game’s story and aesthetic were inspired by fundamental computer science themes, cyberpunk comics, and the 1995 Oscar-snubbed film “Hackers”. Retro games, cult-classic movies, and old college textbooks were integral resources for worldbuilding and game play development. The setting for the binary puzzles scribbled on a train in 2013 became the pulsing, energetic city of Anti-Hack – a gritty metropolis of unsolved nodes and a plucky ball of software defending each computer-themed neighborhood from a menacing virus.
